Tubular Flooded Solar Batteries

About tubular flooded solar batteries:

Tubular flooded solar batteries (also known as OPzS) are a variation of regular flooded cell lead acid solar batteries which as the name suggests, use a tubular plate.

This tubular plate is implemented to reduce the amount of corrosion occurring due to sulphation on the battery plates. As such, OPzS batteries typically last a lot longer than their regular flooded cell counterpart.

Tubular plate technology is not only implemented in flooded cell batteries, but can also be found for gel cell lead acid variants (OPzV).

Advantages of OPzS Tubular flooded solar batteries:

OPzS tubular flooded solar batteries have a wide range of advantages, namely:

  • Increased battery life span due to reduced corrosion
  • Able to be discharged deeper than regular flooded cell solar batteries
  • They have all of the advantages that flooded cell solar batteries have, with only a handful of the disadvantages
  • Typically has a longer life span than tubular gel OPzV solar batteries

Disadvantages of OPzS tubular flooded solar batteries:

OPzS batteries do come at a few disadvantages, including:

  • Does not charge as fast as some lithium ion chemistry solar batteries
  • OPzS batteries are not the most efficient solution for solar storage

Installation of OPzS tubular flooded batteries:

Installation of OPzS tubular flooded batteries is simple, and does not differ from the process used in most other solar battery storage installations. A more detailed guide can be found HERE.
